Pianist Igor Levit makes a musical statement for the protection of the Dannenröder Forest in Hesse. Levit plays the piano along a path that was cut clear for the expansion of the planned highway A49. The concert is broadcasted with loudspeakers to the environmentalists within the forest. Together, Igor Levit, Fridays for Future spokesperson Luisa Neubauer and Greenpeace forest expert Gesche Jürgens are calling on the German government to stop the planned construction of the highway and protect the forest.

The controversial clearing is based on decades-old plans to expand the A49 between Kassel and Gießen. The NGOs criticize the construction of the highway as no longer up-to-date and call for a climate-friendly traffic turnaround.

Ein musikalisches Statement für den Schutz des Dannenröder Waldes setzt Pianist Igor Levit. An einer für den Ausbau der Autobahn A49 kahl geschlagenen Schneise spielt Levit für den Klimaschutz Klavier. Das Konzert wird mit Funklautsprechern zu den Umweltschützenden im Wald übertragen. Gemeinsam fordern Igor Levit, Fridays for Future Sprecherin Luisa Neubauer und Greenpeace-Waldexpertin Gesche Jürgens die Bundesregierung auf, die Zerstörung des Waldes für den Bau einer neuen Autobahn zu beenden.

Die umstrittene Rodung fußt auf jahrzehntealten Ausbauplänen der A49 zwischen Kassel und Gießen. Vor dem Hintergrund einer eskalierenden Klimakrise kritisieren die Organisationen den Autobahnbau als nicht mehr zeitgemäß und fordern eine klimafreundliche Verkehrswende.
