Shoot: World Cities Day in Madrid (P. Armestre)
GP1SUJFQ
On World Cities Day, cities like Madrid, Rome, Bogotá and Mexico City did activities reclaiming green spaces, bike lanes and better consumption options.
Hack your City is a project which seeks for more green, just, sustainable and liveable urban centers.
Today, 55% of the world’s population lives in urban areas and this number is expected to increase to almost 70% by 2050. Cities are the centers of economic activity and account for over 70% of global emissions. Consumption is one of the root causes for 60% of all global greenhouse gas emissions and the way we grow food contributes 24%. In fact, cities use more than two-thirds of the world’s resources and energy, accounting for over 70% of carbon dioxide emissions. As cities continue to grow, so will these numbers. For Greenpeace this means that cities and their citizens must be at the forefront of efforts to hack the climate emergency and economical crisis that the world is experiencing.
