With a two-meter tall, smoking Mercedes star, activists from Greenpeace demonstrate in front of the Ministry of Economics in the Stuttgart Castle for a quick farewell to climate-damaging exhaust-emission cars. "Under No Good Star?" is written on a banner. While manufacturers such as GM, Jaguar and Ford have recently presented much more ambitious phase-out plans, Daimler plans to continue selling cars with internal combustion engines until at least 2039. Baden-Württemberg's Economics Minister Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut (CDU), on the other hand, is threatening to delay the phase-out of internal combustion engines by advocating synthetic fuels, which are many times more expensive and inefficient for passenger cars than battery-electric drives.
