Lobau nature reserve in proximity of Vienna, is being threatened by the construction of a highway addition with a tunnel. Besides digging a tunnel under the nature reserve, close to underground water reserves and WW2 "relics", the animal kingdom is being threatened as well, among the most threatened is the European pond turtle which used to thrive in European habitat, but it is today threatened by its destruction, which, in addition to the water system, must also provide suitable egg-laying sites.
