Shoot: Godafoss Oil Leak Near Norway Coast
GP02AVX
Cleanup operations are under-way close to Norway's Yttre Hvaler marine national park where the Icelandic container ship Godafoss ran aground on the Southern Norwegian coast on February 17th. The ship has since been leaking heavy oil. The national park - the only one designated at sea - is home to more than 6000 marine species, around 220 of which are on the Norwegian national red list of endangered and threatened species. One of the biggest challenges of the clean-up operations is to clean up oil from ice covered areas, clearly illustrating one of the reasons why Greenpeace is against letting oil companies into the Arctic.
