Greenpeace Netherlands director Sylvia Borren and Ed van de Weerd, commercial director of Jumbo Supermarkets have taken an important step in reducing use of pesticides in vegetables and fruits. They agreed that Jumbo will aim for 100% certificated products according the ‘Milieukeur’ guidelines for environmental quality of vegetables and fruit at the end of 2019. Also the company will strive to double or triple the amount of biological products in comparison with the present supply in their supermarkets. The requirements for the floriculture products they sell are increased and will be derived from sustainable culture at the end of 2019.
