A worldwide mobilization took place in 6 countries around the world in order to defend the Amazon Reef. This unique coral reef, located in the Amazon mouth basin, is threatened by the oil company TOTAL which plans to drill near it.
Gathered in front of TOTAL’s petrol stations, the Amazon Reef defenders illustrated the risks of an oil spill from the company's plans to drill nearby. In France Greenpeace volunteers showed their opposition by turning petrol stations into coral reefs damaged by oil.
The aim of this action is to raise awareness amongst TOTAL customers about the risks of drilling in such a sensitive area, less than 30km/20 miles away from the reef.
Anyone who wished could leave a message for the company by writing it down on the cardboard cutouts.
