Greenpeace Hong Kong releases the result of plastic research on Lunar New Year Fair (Flower Market), which includes the amount of single-use cutlery used and their recycling measures. Although the government is organising ‘green flower market’, Greenpeace still found that over 300,000 pieces of single-use plastic cutlery are used daily and most of them cannot be recycled.

Single-use plastic wastage is still a severe problem in Lunar New Year Fairs in Hong Kong, and recycling is NOT a real solution. Greenpeace urged that waste reduction should be the focus. Doing well in waste reduction can help the event organisers to save money on paying the waste charge in the future.
