Shoot: 'Coral Not Coal' Direct Action at Karimunjava Archipelago in Java Sea
(Video)
GP0STRXP1
At Karimunjawa National Park in Indonesia, Karimunjawa Alliance (AKAR) activists and Rainbow Warrior activists have escorted out barges carrying coal from mines from Kalimantan to power plants in Java, Indonesia. The barges and its tug boat were targeted when anchoring inside Karimunjawa National Park area, to protest against the coral reefs damage done by coal barges.
Since January 2018, there have been three incidents in the area where coal barges have damaged the reefs. In early 2017, hundreds of square meters of coral were destroyed by five barges taking shelter during storms.
