In the middle of the night Greenpeace activists block the chlorine train of Solvay in Linne-Herten, Limburg. The train has as final destination the Solvay's factory in the Belgian Jemeppe-sur-Sambre. Solvay is one of the 3 producers of chlorine in Belgium (others are Tessenderlo Chimie and BASF). Most of the chlorine produced is for PVC production. This plastic produces dioxins during production and incineration. Greenpeace protests against the production of chlorine and demands that the production is being stopped. The transport, production, usage and the procession of waste cause severe risks for the environment and there are good alternatives for all chlorine uses. The blockade lasts two days and is stopped after intervention by the judge.
