Greenpeace activists carry out two actions near Venice by occupying a coal fired power plant and painting a message on a coal transport ship, to denounce coal as the worst climate pollutant of all fossil fuels. The activities are part of a nationwide protest started as the leaders of the world’s most powerful nations arrived at the G8 Summit in L’Aquila, Italy. Over 100 Greenpeace activists from around the world have occupied four coal-fired power stations across Italy, demanding the G8 Heads of State to take leadership on climate change. The G8 leaders must stop putting the interests of big coal and other climate polluting industries ahead of the planet and take strong, decisive leadership on climate change. That means deep cuts in emissions by 2020, investing in adaption and mitigation in the developing world and halting tropical deforestation.
