Greenpeace and the Naturfreunde (Friends of Nature) organise an alpine action at the Goldbergkees glacier at the Hoher Sonnblick mountain in the province of Salzburg to make aware of global warming and its first visible impacts in Austria- the melting of the glaciers. Under the partronage of the well-known alpinists Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner and Kurt Diemberger about 70 hikers join Greenpeace on the way up to the Goldbergkees glacier. There activists unfold a 200 square meters sized banner that reads: „SOS Gletscher: Klimaschutz jetzt!“, in english: „SOS Glacier: Save the Climate Now!“. This action is part of the campaign „1.000.000 Taten für den Klimaschutz“ (in english: „1.000.000 Acts to Save the Climate“) and wants to encourage the Austrian Government to support an ambitious deal at the Copenhagen conference in December.
