Shoot: Climate Action Wind-Gauge at the North Sea the Netherlands

GP01KCP
Greenpeace places today a wind-gauge on a buoy at the North Sea, 40 kilometres offshore of Zandvoort. The information of this wind-gauge is transmitted directly to land. At a large screen you can see 'live' how many households can be provided with wind energy, if at that moment one thousand wind turbines will be active at the North Sea. This way Greenpeace shows how much wind energy the Dutch government Balkenende blows away. Study by the Energieonderzoek Centrum Nederland shows that with the law MEP (Milieukwaliteit Elektriciteitsproductie - incentives policy for green energy), wind energy at sea is a profitable activity. The argument that wind parks at sea are economically unfeasible, isn't true anymore. The past years Denmark, Sweden and England have built wind parks at sea, but the Dutch government still has cold feet. 'Two years ago Greenpeace applied for a license at the location where they place a wind-gauge today. But by now Greenpeace, just like other parties that want wind parks at sea, must go to court to force the government to consider the authorisations. Unknown makes unpopular it seems, because licences for a new oil or gas drilling at sea are provided within a month', states Greenpeace Climate & Energy campaigner Ruud van Leeuwen.
