Rice Farmers Photography Project in China

Rice Farmers Photography Project in China

Shoot
GP0UH
01/01/2005
Five rice farmers from the Yunnan Province with no experience in photography were given a camera and asked to document their sustainable rice farming methods over the space of a year to highlight the potential of ecological agriculture. The farmers are part of a strong, local community, indigenous to the area. They work closely with the land, cultivating the rice and soil. The project, entitled ‘Rice is Life’ presents authentic evidence to show the importance of rice and ecology and the interaction between rice and culture amongst rice farmers. This is set against the growing trend in genetically engineered rice and the potential risks involved.
