Vienna/Galtuer – Six Greenpeace activists have begun a six day protest action on the Piz Buin glacier in the Austrian Alps (3312 meters) to draw attention to glacier retreat and other dramatic consequences of global climate change. From the top of Piz Buin they hang a banner with the warning. “SOS Glacier –Stop Climate Change!” The environmentalists from Switzerland, Germany, Slovakia and Austria demand concrete progress at the international climate negotiations in Buenos Aires. Only a fast reduction of greenhouse gas emissions will stop global climate change.
