Solidarity Event for 'Arctic 30' Activist Gizem Akhan in Turkey

As the Arctic 30 face their 46th day in a Murmansk detention center, friends and family of Greenpeace International activist Gizem Akhan gather in solidarity, unfurling banners at Istanbul’s Maiden’s Tower, a day before her birthday.

Greenpeace Mediterranean activists circle the tower in an inflatable holding a banner reading “Happy Birthday Gizem” while friends and family unfurl a banner reading: “We’re With You On Your Birthday.”

Gizem Akhan and the rest of the Arctic 30 (28 Greenpeace International activists plus a freelance photographer and freelance videographer) are currently held in a Murmansk detention center following a peaceful protest at Gazprom’s Prirazlomnaya platform in the Pechora Sea.
