'Oil Free Seas' Banners on Piha Beach in New Zealand
Banners on the beach. People show their opposition to deep sea oil drilling in New Zealand waters at the 'banners on the beach' event at Piha. Similar events are on at about 45 North Island west coast beaches and others are happening in solidarity on the east coast and in the South Island. They have been organised in support of the Oil Free Seas Flotilla which is protesting where oil giant Anadarko intends to start drilling. The site is over 100 nautical miles off the west coast of New Zealand, and in waters around a kilometre and a half deep.
