(Un)Happy 190th, Scotiabank! Oily Birthday Celebration in Toronto

Greenpeace Canada activists delivered an 8-foot tall birthday cake and card topped with pipeline candles leaking oil to Scotiabank’s corporate headquarters in Toronto for the bank’s 190th, right ahead of their AGM. Scotiabank, in a regrettable lack of wisdom for its age, is the only major Canadian bank that is a member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) — Canada’s main oil lobby group that works to derail climate action. Despite their claims, Canada’s big banks are still amongst the largest funders of fossil fuels in the world and are thus fueling the climate crisis, destroying biodiversity and violating Indigenous rights.
