THE PUBLIC EYE AWARDS 2014: GAP UND GAZPROM ERHALTEN DEN SCHMAEHPREIS
Davos, 23. © Greenpeace/Ex-Press/Flurin Bertschinger

2014 Public Eye Awards in Davos
The Berne Declaration (BD) and Greenpeace Switzerland present the 2014 Public Eye Awards in Davos. The People´s Award goes to Gazprom oil company for irresponsible business conduct at the cost of people and the environment. The Jury Award goes to the American textile giant Gap who steadfastly refuses to contribute to effective reforms in the textile industry. The press conference, at which the winners are announced, turns into a lively debate about the downside of economic growth, the sheer unlimited power of multinational corporations and their lack of responsibility for people and the environment. Attending guests on the Public Eye Award are Greenpeace International Executive Director Kumi Naidoo, Czech Economist and lateral thinker Tomáš Sedlácek, Brid Brennan from the Transnational Institute of Policy Studies, Kalpona Akter, Director of the Bangladesh Center for Workers Solidarity and former child textile worker from Bangladesh and Liana Foxvog of the International Labour Rights Forum (ILRF). The Public Eye, held every year since 2000, is a counter-event to the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
