Namie had a population of nearly 20,000 people that was evacuated on March 12th 2011. The evacuation area around Fukushima Daiichi is divided in 3 areas or zones based on the radiation levels. Contamination in Namie is such that areas of the district have all 3 of these zones, including the highest contaminated zone 3 where people will not be permitted to return for a long time. Zones 1 and 2 is that is being prepared for people to return to, as early as 2016 and 2017 respectively. One year after the lifting of the evacuation orders citizens will loose their right to the limited compensation they are now receiving from TEPCO.
