Greenpeace researches revealed that in 16 Austrian communities, including Griffen, contract farmers of the company Pioneer plan to plant genetically engineered maize. Greenpeace is protesting with a six meters high maize cob against the risks of GE maize. The GE pollination would be a big danger for the neighbouring farmers, because they no longer will be able to sell their products as GE Free. Greenpeace activist Susanne Fromwald calls for an immediate act by Carinthian politicians to prohibit the plantation of GE Maize.
