The activists painted "NO COAL. NO NUCLEAR. CLEAN ENERGY" on the ship's hull and some locked themselves to the loading boom of the coal vessel. Nanticoke was scheduled for decommission in early 2009 as part of the Ontario commitment to eliminate coal power, but this has been repeatedly delayed. The plant has shut down four of its eight units, and is currently scheduled to phase out its use of coal by 2014, switching to biomass or natural gas. Nanticoke is one of Canada's top ten single sources of greenhouse gases and the largest coal-fired power plant in North America.
