The Sigyn is carrying spent nuclear fuel from a German nuclear power plant to a Swedish intermediate storage. Despite radio calls from Greenpeace and the firing of distress flares, the Sigyn proceeded into port, crushing one of the inflatables under her hull. Later in the day, Greenpeace had cause to celebrate when delegates from over 65 countries at a meeting of the London Dumping Convention, agreed to halt all ocean incineration of toxic waste by the end of 1994.
