Action at Cirebon Power Plant in Java
Greenpeace Indonesia activists climbed the crane of grab ship unloader, blocking the loading of coal for the Cirebon Coal Power Plant in Indonesia, the world’s second biggest exporter of coal. The protest is part of a global wave of actions called Break Free, running from 4-15 May, and demands governments keep coal, oil and gas in the ground.
The activists unfurled a banner saying ‘Quit Coal’, from the cranes at the coal terminal and urged the government to immediately transition towards renewable energy. Communities near the coal power plant have protested its expansion plans since last year.
