Action at Supermarket C1000 in Amersfoort
Greenpeace activists put up a banner and a fish bone of 630 by 197 inch on the rooftop of the head office of supermarket C1000 (Schuitema). The banner reads "C1000, stop verkoop foute vis, dat scheelt!" which is a reference to the supermarkets own commercial campaign and translates into "C1000, stop selling unsustainable fish, that makes a difference!"

The protest is against the range of fish the supermarkets sell, because half of it consists of unsustainable fish or fish with an unclear origin. Greenpeace demands that C1000 immediately stops selling endangered fish and implements a sustainable fish policy. In this policy there can be no place for over-fished species or seafood species fished or farmed using environmentally destructive methods. At present none of the Dutch supermarkets obtain all their seafood from sustainable sources. This is the conclusion from the supermarket league table published by Greenpeace. Since the release of the first ranking in September 2007, more supermarkets are trying to implement a sustainable sourcing policy for fish. Scientists are warning of the rapid disappearance of fish from the oceans. Since the beginning of 2007 Greenpeace has urged supermarkets to halt the plundering of our seas.
