The activists are calling for Sweden's Prime minister Stefan Löfven to deny Preems application to expand the oil refinery. If the Swedish government grants Preem permission to expand, it would increase the CO2 emissions from Preemraff by one million tonnes per year and make the refinery the single biggest source of CO2 in the country. An expansion of Preemraff would be incompatible with Sweden reaching its national emissions targets and Its commitments under the Paris agreement.Locations:Europe-Lysekil-Nordic Countries-SwedenDate:11 Sep, 2020Credit:© Rasmus Törnqvist / GreenpeaceMaximum size:5464px X 3640pxKeywords:Actions and protests-Aerial view from UAV-Climate (campaign title)-Day-Greenpeace ships-KWCI (GPI)-MY Rainbow Warrior III-Oceans (campaign title)-Oil refineries-Oil tankers-Outdoors-SeasShoot:Activists Block Crude Oil Tanker Heading to Preem's Refinery in Lysekil, Sweden - AERIALSGreenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior and activists from Greenpeace Nordic peacefully block the entrance of the Brofjorden port to stop an oil tanker destined for Preem's oil refinery. The protest comes as the Swedish government is deciding on an application from the oil company Preem to expand their oil refinery in Lysekil. If the Swedish government grants Preem permission to expand, it would increase the CO2 emissions from Preemraff by one million tonnes per year and make the refinery the single biggest source of CO2 in the country. An expansion of Preemraff would be incompatible with Sweden reaching its national emissions targets and its commitments under the Paris agreement. Greenpeace demands that Prime Minister, Stefan Löfven, and the Swedish government choose Paris over Preem, and stop the planned expansion of the refinery in Lysekil.Related Collections:Activists Block Crude Oil Tanker Heading to Preem's Refinery in Lysekil, Sweden (All Photos & Videos)
