Activists Clean up Californian Oil Spill

Clean up workers on Refugio State Baeach fill plastic bags with materials contaminated with oil spilled from a broken 24-inch underground pipeline. Houston-based Plains All American Pipeline said up to 105,000 gallons of oil were released before the pipeline was shut down.

Cleanup crews begin treating four miles of the Pacific Ocean and shoreline near Goleta, Calif., after a 24-inch underground pipeline broke and leaked into a culvert leading to the ocean. Houston-based Plains All American Pipeline said an estimated 21,000 gallons of oil were released before the pipeline was shut down. Sea life is dead in the oil. Whales were seen in the area affected by the oil which lies in an area of state park beaches.
