Activists Send Message to Canon
Greenpeace activist, Karli Thomas, displays a sign reading "I wouldn't shoot a whale with anything else," while holding a Canon camera. Around the world, Canon cameras shoot whales on whale-watching expeditions but in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, many whales are shot with harpoons. Canon has built much of its reputation for environmental concern through their sponsorship of environmental causes, including the conservation of endangered species. A corporation which brands itself as a defender of wildlife ought to do more than express those values in advertisements, and sponsorships. Greenpeace encourages Canon to use their immense power to speak out domestically against whaling.
