Aerial view of the rainforest in the Amazon, photographed during a flight from Cuiaba to Alta Floresta in the Brazilian Amazon.
The Amazon rainforest is one of the most bio-diverse regions on Earth. More than 5,000 tree species are found here. Deforestation is a huge threat to these forests as farmer’s clear land to give way to soya fields, cattle farming and large infrastructure projects. Ancient forest protection is crucial to preserving biodiversity and the global climate.

Amazon Agriculture and Forest Clearing Documentation 2007
Large sections of the Amazon rainforest are set on fire during the burning season when farmers clear large areas for soy farming or cattle breeding. Most of Brazil's greenhouse gas emissions result from deforestation, with the majority coming from the clearing and burning of the Amazon rainforests.
