Alpine Action Goldbergkees Glacier Austria

Greenpeace and the Naturfreunde (Friends of Nature) organise an alpine action at the Goldbergkees glacier in the province of Salzburg to make aware of global warming and encourage the Austrian Government to support an ambitious deal at the Copenhagen conference in December. After ascending to the glacier, activists unfurl two huge banners. The yellow one reads: „SOS Gletscher: Klimaschutz jetzt!“, in english: „SOS Glacier: Save the Climate Now!“. The white one carries the name of a campaign: „1.000.000 Taten für den Klimaschutz“ (in english: „1.000.000 Acts to Save the Climate“).

Alpin-Aktion am Goldbergkees-Gletscher

Rund siebzig Wanderer und Wanderinnen sind am Samstag, den 15. August 2009, auf Einladung von Greenpeace und Naturfreunden zum Goldbergkees-Gletscher am Hohen Sonnblick in Salzburg aufgestiegen, um auf die Auswirkungen des Klimawandels vor Ort aufmerksam zu machen.
Auf einem 200 Quadratmeter großen Banner war zu lesen: „SOS Gletscher: Klimaschutz jetzt!“. Greenpeace veranstaltete diese Aktion gemeinsam mit den Naturfreunden Österreich im Rahmen der Kampagne „1.000.000 Taten für den Klimaschutz“, um so damit die österreichische Regierung aufzurufen, sich bei der Klimakonferenz in Kopenhagen im Dezember für ein ambitioniertes Abkommen einzusetzen. Die bekannten Bergsteiger Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner und Kurt Diemberger haben die Patronanz für die Wanderung übernommen.

Under the partronage of the well-known alpinists Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner and Kurt Diemberger about 70 hikers join Greenpeace on the way up to the Goldbergkees glacier. There activists unfold a 200 square meters sized banner that reads: „SOS Gletscher: Klimaschutz jetzt!“, in english: „SOS Glacier: Save the Climate Now!“. This action is part of the campaign „1.000.000 Taten für den Klimaschutz“ (in english: „1.000.000 Acts to Save the Climate“) and wants to encourage the Austrian Government to support an ambitious deal at the Copenhagen conference in December.
