Archaeological Site in Point Hope
Old settlement of Tikigaq at Point Hope, North Slope Borough, Alaska. Built mainly with whalebone and driftwood, these semi-subterranean houses still provide a welter of valuable information to archaeologists on how early people survived in their harsh environment.
Point Hope is one of the oldest continually occupied sites in North America. The community and the surrounding ocean habitat are threatened by offshore oil drilling, as well as industrial fishing fleets.
