To achieve this 4000 signatures were collected. In the zoning plan is established that in the district "Ooyse Schependom" no genetically engineered crops can be cultivated. With this decision the council wants to protect the farmers and nature against the contaminating effects of genetic modification. Greenpeace supports this initiative. Also several other districts have shown interest in following this initiative.
