Cyanide pipes of Aurul goldmine. A toxic spill occurred on January 30th 2000, the dam containing toxic waste material from the Baia Mare Aurul gold mine in north western Romania burst and released 100.000 cubic meters of waste water, heavily contaminated with cyanide, into the Lapus and Somes tributaries of the river Tisza, one of the biggest in Hungary.

Action against Aurul SA goldmine owned by Esmeralda Exploration ltd ( Australia). On 30 January a dam holding Cyanide waste water broke, polluting a large area in Romania , Serbia and Hungary. Greenpeace calls for a stop on using Cyanide in mining, also the dam behind which the cyanide is kept is too weak. Action was held on World Water Day.
