Brazilian President Temer is Greeted with Protests in Oslo

A number of Norwegian environmental and rights-based organizations protest in front of the Prime Minister’s residence in Oslo to make it clear to Temer that they view his administration’s policies as not only putting forests at risk, but also the very lives of indigenous peoples and human rights protectors in the country.
After pressures from NGOs in Brazil, the Brazilian president Michel Temer signed the veto of proposals that would reduce the protection of forests in the Amazon. The veto could be considered a victory, but the environment minister, Sarney Filho, said that the government is working on similar legislation. Temer did a political maneuver to calm down civil society opinion and also to be able to visit Norway without having signed any forest reduction in Brazil.
