Brent Spar Action 1st Occupation - North Sea (1995)

Greenpeace activists scaled and took up residence on the Brent Spar, a disused oil platform to stop its owner, Shell, from dumping the rusting hulk & its highly toxic contents to the sea bed. On the 26th day of occupation, in the second attempt by Shell to board the Spar, the Shell vessel Stadive used its crane to lower a basket containing Shell workers & police onto the helicopter deck of the Spar. Most of the activists were taken to the Stadive. N.Sea (Greenpeace Changing the World page 210)
