Shoot:
Climate Action Offering Action Cards at E.ON the Netherlands
Greenpeace offers a wind turbine, built of 78,000 action cards, to energy supplier E.ON in Rotterdam. Five signers join Greenpeace to present the action cards to E.ON director Joost van Dijk at the E.ON headquarters. Unfortunately he refuses to receive the signatures. The signers want that E.ON stops the construction of a new coal-fired power plant at the Maasvlakte and invests more in clean energy, like sun, wind and biomass. 'Everybody does its best for the climate by replacing energy wasting incandescent light bulbs for low energy light bulbs, using green energy and taking the train more often. E.ON sweeps away all these efforts with the construction of new coal-fired power plants. And this while coal-fired power plants aren't necessary at all', states Greenpeace Climate & Energy campaigner Rolf Schipper. A sustainable energy supply - without coal and nuclear energy - is possible and affordable. This shows the study 'Energy Revolution Scenario'. With energy saving and major investments in sustainable energy, we become less dependent of the import of fuels from for example Russia, South Africa and the Middle East. By building over 6% of the North Sea with wind farms, we will have enough green energy for the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium and France together.
