Projection Action at Hemwegcentrale Nuon in Amsterdam
Greenpeace projects the climate change disaster film 'The Day After Tomorrow' at the Hemwegcentrale of electricity supplier Nuon in Amsterdam. The speed by which the climate change develops in the movie is not realistic, but with this action Greenpeace asks attention for the worldwide problem and makes clear that the possible causes of climate change are dramatic. 'Consumers have shown in the past years a preference for green energy. People seem to like doing something for the environment', states Greenpeace Climate and Energy campaigner Joris Thijssen. 'About 40% of the Dutch consumers uses green energy. This way they oblige electricity suppliers to generate electricity in a sustainable manner. Greenpeace calls on the electricity suppliers Essent, Nuon and Eneco to change their green words into actions and realize a breakthrough for sustainable energy. This means a run-down of coal-fired power plants and an investment in sustainable energy like, sun, wind and clean biomass to prevent climate change'.
