Climate Action at Gurschen Glacier Andermatt Switzerland

On the Gurschen glacier at Andermatt 3000m2 of plastic sheets is used to cover the glacier. Representatives of the "Andermatt Gotthard Railway Sports AG" declared during a media briefing that the sheets will protect the glacier from the sun and thus from melting. Eight Greenpeace activists surprised the media representatives there with their presence with signs reading "Klimaschutz statt Symptombekampfung!" or translated: "Combat climate change rather than the symptoms!" and "Stop Climate Change Now!"

Auf dem Gurschengletscher bei Andermatt werden in einem erstmaligen Gross-Versuch 3000m2 Kunststofffolien ausgelegt. Vertreter der «Andermatt Gotthard Sportbahnen AG» erklärten heute anlässlich einer Medienorientierung, dass die Folien den Gletscher vor Sonne und Abschmelzen schützen sollen. Acht Greenpeace-Aktivisten und Aktivistinnen sind in der Nacht auf den Gemsstock gestiegen und überraschten die Medienvertreter dort mit ihrer Anwesenheit. Auf den mitgeführten Transparenten stand "Reduce CO2" und «Klimaschutz statt Symptombekämpfung». Greenpeace fordert eine Reduktion des CO2-Ausstosses via eine substantielle Lenkungsabgabe auf allen fossilen Energien.
