Climate Crisis Action at HELPE Refinery in Aspropyrgos, Greece
Greenpeace Greece activists, joined by activists from Spain, Poland, Italy and France, have blocked the main entrance of the HELPE refineries. Hellenic Petroleum, known as HELPE, is one of the two major Greek oil companies and is planning to perform fossil fuel extractions in several areas of Greece.
HELPE’s drilling plans exacerbate climate crisis, threaten pristine areas with destruction and put our right to a stable climate and a sustainable environment at risk. With this peaceful protest, the activists are sending a strong message to HELPE to abandon their plans for drilling and to present a plan which will align their business model to the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement and the effort to keep global temperature under 1.5°C.
