It generates its own energy on a small scale, using renewable resources, near to the point where that energy is then used. Specifically, it is therefore an example of decentralised renewable energy, or DRE. First constructed in 2008 under the name of the Climate Rescue Station, the dome was renamed the Urja Kranti Kendra upon its arrival in Bihar. It stands here as a glowing testament to policy makers and politicians that DRE can power homes, empower people and bring development to the energy-starved state. Through the Kendra, Greenpeace demonstrates their belief that energy generated at the indigenous level, using local resources and managed by communities, is the best, most sustainable and most reliable method of energy generation. By investing in DRE, Bihar can undergo an energy revolution and forge a future of energy independence. The Kendra serves as a focal point for a campaign’s local outreach work, and as a base for media to interact with activists and learn more about their issues. Part of its potency as a campaign tool lies in its ability to be installed right where the problems exists, be it the mine face, the darkened areas of power deficits, or in the hearts of the cities where the power of politics resides.
