Coal Plant Protest in Indonesia
Farmers, fishers from Batang together with Greenpeace and Public Defender of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) take action in the middle of the rice fields to show their opposition to the proposed mega-sized coal-fired power plant in Ponowareng village, Batang, Central Java. The groups highlight the threats to livelihoods, food sovereignty, human rights and to the environment once the power plant is built.
Greenpeace demands that the Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI) project must not undermine food security or farmers and fishermen’s employment.
