The results showed that 12 of the 13 rice samples had excessive cadmium content and contained other heavy metals such as lead, mercury and arsenic. The highest cadmium content was 21 times higher than the national standard. The cadmium content of the paddy soil samples all exceeded the secondary standard of soil environmental quality, more than three times the standard. Combined with the analysis of local leading wind direction and field test results, it shows that the non-ferrous metal enterprises in the industrial park are an important source of local heavy metal pollution.In April 2014, Greenpeace released the report ““Colored Rice”: Investigation of Heavy Metal Pollution in Rice in Hengdong County, Hunan Province”, exposing the status of heavy metal pollution around Hengdong Industrial Park (Dapu Tablet) in Hengyang City, Hunan Province.Distribution of metals in soils from uncultivated land, soils from rice fields and in rice grown in the area of an industrial complex with metal smelting and processing facilities in Hunan Province, China.
