Countryside near Factory Farm in Lescout, France
Near the village of Lescout there is a big hen factory farm, currently farming 185,000 hens. Fog and humidity characterise winter mornings in the rural flat countryside around the village of Lescout. At the time of the visit of Greenpeace France in the area, locals mentioned that the fog disguised not only the landscape, but also the smell coming from the farm. This smell is a constant in the daily lives of inhabitants of Lescout. Only 700 people live in the village. The quantity of hens in the factory farm outnumbers the population of the village by 264 times.

First built in the 1980s, it steadily grew and was expanded in 2016 to the modern and highly industrial facility it is today. The owner is planning to expand more as a building permit has been requested for a new building. The village of Lescout has only 700 inhabitants.
