Cyclothon Event called ‘Cycle of Life’ in Bangalore
Greenpeace volunteers organized a cyclothon event called ‘Cycle of Life'. Nearly a 100 students from various colleges participated at the event. Students cycled across 6 kilometers near Whitefield area with a message of segregation, composting as a first step towards safe food.
The campaign ‘Waste to Food’ aims at getting residents of Bangalore to segregate, compost and thereby Greenpeace India intends to advocate for a policy to ensure the relevant authorities use household compost for agricultural purposes. “Currently, we don't have a policy to ensure that the household compost reaches the farmers for agricultural purpose. The campaign focuses on urban cities and how they can help the farmers to grow food which is agro-chemical free. The city has the potential to connect the loop by composting our wet waste, which can then act as a manure for the farmers. Here we are urging people to segregate and compost the wet waste thereby helping us in advocating for a policy to connect the loop,”says Shivani Shah, Senior Campaigner for Food for Life, Greenpeace India.
