Damming Activity in Central Kalimantan
Environmental activists unfurl a banner reading ‘Forest protection now’ at Paduran village, Pulang Pisau district in Central Kalimantan.
Fires on drained peatlands are a disaster, and have made Indonesia into a major greenhouse emitter. Greenpeace activists together with the local community and NGOs Save Our Borneo and CIMTROP University of Palangkaraya continue its canal damming to restore water levels in peatlands previously drained for plantations. The action is seen underway at Paduran village, Pulang Pisau district in Central Kalimantan, during the global climate change conference in Paris. The group is calling for peatland & forest protection to prevent fires and reduce emissions.
