IFL Beauty and Destruction Documentation in Arkhangelsk Region
Intact Forest Landscapes (IFL) in Russia are huge forest areas (more than 50 hectares) without settlements, transport infrastructures and economic activities.
These areas have a sufficient size to contain, support, and maintain biodiversity.
IFL remain in the European part of Russia but are under threat because they don’t have any nature conservation status.
Available forest lands have degraded due to forest fires, logging, and extensive forestry, which makes the timber industry turn their eye to IFL.
Proper management of forestry in Russia could protect virgin forests.
