Dirty Laundry Reloaded Clipreel
The Greenpeace Detox campaign has just launched its latest report entitled, "Dirty Laundry Reloaded" revealing that the pollution impacts of the textile sector extend far beyond the country of manufacture and are creating a global cycle of pollution.
The report reveals that residues of the hazardous chemicals used in textile manufacturing remain in many clothing items sold by major clothing brands and, when washed, a significant percentage of the chemicals in these clothes is released into rivers, lakes and seas, where they turn into even more toxic chemicals.
Urgent measures are needed to stop hazardous chemicals entering the environment, therefore Greenpeace is calling major clothing brands to detox and eliminate releases of all hazardous chemicals from their supply chains and products.
This clipreel provides footage of the clothes testing process, soundbites from Greenpeace Scientist Kevin Brigden and Greenpeace Campaigner Marietta Harjono plus general shots of fashion brands. Also footage of polluted Chinese waters plus waste water pipe sampling by Greenpeace.
