Dirty Secrets of China's Flagship Coal-to-Gas Model Project
A herder tends to his farmland near the Datang Hexigten Qi coal-to-gas plant. He says that since it begins operation, smoke from the plant fills the air, water in the wells begin to have an odd taste and ambient noise levels has increased. All these are directly affecting their daily lives. China’s flagship coal-to-gas pilot project is already breaking national standards on air and water pollution, according to an on-the-ground investigation by Greenpeace China.

Dirty Secrets of China's Flagship Coal-to-Gas Model Project
China’s flagship coal-to-gas pilot project is already breaking national standards on air and water pollution, according to an on-the-ground investigation by Greenpeace China. China is considering more than 50 new coal to gas projects in a move partially designed to reduce air pollution. The process is extremely carbon intensive and recent analysis suggests the projects undermine a recent China-US agreement on tackling climate change. Domestically the plans have sparked concerns about water use and local pollution.
