Earth Day Break Free from Plastics Action in UK
In occasion of Earth Day, Greenpeace volunteers across London provide sustainably sourced recycled paper bags marked with the text “End Ocean Plastic” in local supermarkets to replace the single-use fruit and vegetable bags supplied in the stores. The aim is to show how easy it would be for major retailers to make small changes and start reducing their plastic footprint.
The volunteers visited: Morrisons, Sainsburys, Tesco, Aldi, Waitrose, Asda, Co-op and Marks & Spencers in London.
UK supermarkets generate almost a million tonnes of plastic packaging waste every year, adding to the 12 million tonnes of plastic that ends up in our oceans and the stomachs of marine wildlife.
