Forest Action - Police Helicopters (Belgium: 2007)

A police helicopter flies above several Greenpeace inflatables in Antwerp harbour. The activists are blocking the unloading of the cargo ship MS Ceynowa, which arrived in Antwerp from Matadi, Democratic Republic of the Congo and is suspected to carry wood from the Congo rainforest. The Congo basin of Africa is home to the second largest rainforest in the world, with around half existing in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Beyond environmental impacts, logging in the region exacerbates poverty and leads to social conflicts. Greenpeace is calling on the Belgian government to make the protection of the African rainforest a priority.
